Contest

Music is an important part of the story in Mixed Tape. In chapter one there is a high school prom scene that takes place in June 1984. 

Your task: 

• Create a 10-song playlist—a mixed tape, if you will—that could have been played at the prom dance.
• Build your playlist on Apple Music or Spotify and share the link with me.
• You can also submit a text list but make sure you include the song title and artist name.
• Mixed Tape takes place in Canada, so lists that include some Canadian music content from the time will be looked upon favourably!  
• A note of caution: As part of the judging process, we will be checking the release dates for songs, so your songs must have been released BEFORE July 1984. 
• Contest begins November 1. Contest deadline is midnight on November 30th. 

I have assembled an expert panel of judges (or, basically, a bunch of my friends who would have attended a prom in 1984). We’ll review your playlists and select the one we feel best captures the time. In the event of a tie amongst the judges, we’ll draw a name from a hat…or we might even issue two prizes.

To enter: DM me your Apple Music or Spotify playlist link (or text list) or email it to geoff@mixedtapenovel.ca. Make sure you include your name, email and mailing address so I can send the prize if your list is chosen. Your information will not be shared with anyone else. The winner will be contacted through direct message and announced on my social media and the Mixed Tape website, and I’ll post the winning playlist on the website.
